To be assigned a screening appointment you must return your application to the GCS Pre-K office by the April 23, 2010 deadline.
Pre-K screening appointment
Parents/guardians who complete and return an application form during the application period will receive a letter notifying you of the date, time and site for your child's screening appointment. Screening appointments will be scheduled in Greensboro at the Family Resource Center and in High Point in the Western Region administration building.
At the screening appointment your child will be screened for school readiness by a teacher using a developmental assessment. The assessment is a series of activities which create a picture of your child’s language, cognitive and motor development based on age. You may supply additional information which will be helpful in considering placement of your child.
After you apply a letter will be sent to your home confirming your child’s screening appointment time and will list documents you will need to bring to the screening appointment including your child’s certified birth certificate and proof of residence in Guilford County.
Parents/guardians will learn about GCS developmental pre-K program as well as other community resources available to parents of four year olds. To determine if your child is eligible for the preschool program for school year 2010-11 parents/guardians must complete the pre-K screening process with your child.
Pre-K placement
Priority placement is based on need for school readiness after the children have completed the screening process. Parents/guardians of children screened will receive a letter by US mail from the district prekindergarten office notifying you of the status of your child’s application. Letters will be mailed by July 1 and must be returned to the prekindergarten office by July 31 to accept placement.
Applications for the current school year accepted through March 31
You are encouraged to apply at any time after the screening application deadline if you want to have your child screened for eligibility. Guilford County Schools offers placement to eligible children when vacancies occur throughout the school year. If a vacancy occurs in a school you have selected the prekindergarten department will contact you to schedule a screening appointment.
