Employee of the Month (March 2008)
GCS Announces Adaptive Physical Education Teacher as March Employee of the Month
“Special” is just one of many accolades given to Nancy Abel by her coworkers, staff and parents who all say she has energy and enthusiasm to spare and an unconditional love for exceptional students. Students love her sunny disposition and that she meets them at their individual level to ensure that all abilities can participate in physical education activities.
Abel is a consummate team player who travels to 15 schools a week to work with exceptional children. She focuses on the strengths of her students as she helps them discover themselves through physical education. Coworkers describe her as a person who goes to any length to ensure success for her students. Abel truly sees the world through the eyes of her exceptional children; in fact, her positive attitude and can-do spirit led many students to participate in the Special Olympics. Her compassion knows no bounds, and her positive personality ignites everyone that knows this exceptional educator. Because of her endless devotion to help her students achieve, Abel was selected as the district’s Employee of the Month.
As Employee of the Month, Abel received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, which has generously partnered with Guilford County Schools to support the employee recognition program.
