Summerfield Elementary Groundbreaking Ceremony - July 21, 2010

Under a warm sun, staff and community members broke ground at Summerfield Elementary to celebrate the start of renovations and additions. Part of the 2008 school bonds, the project includes new classrooms for more than 250 students as well as expansion for increased capacity in the dining room and media center. The school was originally built in 1924 and replaced by the present building in 1983.

Board of Education member Darlene Garrett welcomed guests, including the Mayor of Summerfield Mark Brown and Mayor Pro Tem Dena Barnes, and introduced Superintendent Green. Music teacher Cindy Byrne provided a history of the school.

Summerfield is one of 10 schools to meet AYP for the eighth consecutive year, and gained 0.3 percentage points in End-of-Grade composite tests in 2009-10 moving from 92.6 to 92.9.
